Capturing the stories of inspiring people and being able to re-tell it to thousands is an absolute dream come true. Since the year 2005 when I first started experimenting with camcorders and analog cameras I have been drawn to media and story telling. It is a passion for me. The year 2019 had me travelling alongside multiple World Championship holders to destinations like Greece, Tarifa, Namibia, and a whole lot of the fierce South African coastline. The learning curve has been steep and nerve wracking to say the least. I produced more than 50 shorts videos, some longer than others but without a doubt the standout being an 18-minute feature film with Zane Schweitzer. I still can't believe how I pulled that one off. "Once the lighthouse is seen, the rest of the sea is ignored" - Terri Guillemets On Sunday the 8th of March 2020, while the cyclists were preparing for the Cape Argus cycle tour, there were a group of watermen with something else in mind. For me, the morning started at 04h30 and included final preperations and coffee before taking the road to Slangkop Lighthouse. This is where the morning started. The mission started 2 days earlier when my friend Piet invited me to come shoot. Unbeknown to him, I had just upgraded my camera kit and was itching for something to shoot. I couldn't even comprehend what was about to go down! It was an absolute blessing to be out in the water among many of the countries greatest watermen. I am inspired!
